VYVYAN OSCAR BERESFORD WILDE
December, 1891
This photograph is not new, but it is not often seen in close up like this, nor usually as a full cabinet card [below] which is in the Oscar Wilde Collection at Trinity College, Dublin.
VYVYAN at V YEARS
The photograph is of Oscar Wilde’s second son, Vyvyan Holland (né Wilde) in December, 1891, aged five years, taken at the studio of William Salmon—which was on London Street, in Reading, UK.
Other details to be gleaned from the photograph include the information on the back of the card, the toggled closure of Vyvyan’s coat, and a close-up of his laced-up boots.

Dressed up like his old man in Sarony plate 3.
Does Vyvian or Vivyan spelling appear anywhere?
To eyes or too wise.
The outfit, Cossack or Russian, is more likely from the parents than the studio. Perhaps VERA has not been entirely forgotten. Mercifully, such shoes have long gone out of fashion.
